TAG FAQ

✹ WHICH SIZE RIVET-ON TAG SHOULD I ORDER?

  • STANDARD (2.5" X .75") tags will fit on collars 1 inch-width and greater.
  • PETITE (2" x .625") tags will fit on 3/4"-width collars and greater.
  • MINI (1.5" x 0.375") tags will fit on 1/2"-width and greater.

If you are ordering a Double Layer collar, your tag is placed on the top layer. Therefore, for a 1.5" Double Layer collar, the top layer is 1"-width and you will want a Standard Tag; if you are ordering a 1" Double Layer collar, the top layer is 3/4" width and you will want a Petite Tag; if you are ordering a 3/4" Double Layer collar, the top layer is 1/2"-width and you will want a Mini Tag.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE TAG/COLLAR ONCE I ORDER?

All goods things take time! Turn-around time is approximately 2 weeks once your order is placed.

WHERE ON THE COLLAR WILL THE TAG BE PLACED?

Your tag will be attached to the center of the back of your collar (opposite the buckle), unless instructed otherwise in the Notes/Special Instructions. If you order a McKinley Double Layer Collar with a rear d-ring, a Center Ring or Mariposa Collar, your tag will need to be placed on the side of the collar.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY TAGS?

Solid brass and nickel-silver tags cannot rust as they contain no iron, but over time they will naturally patina. To clean your tags and restore their shine, you have a few options:

Tags can be cleaned with mild soap, warm water and a soft cloth or sponge to gently remove any dirt or debris. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to move all soap residue and dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.

To enhane shine, we use Extra Fine #0000 steel wool or Autosol. We prefer Autosol over Brasso as it has a finer grit and will be less likely to scratch your tag.

If, by chance, the black marking on your tag should fade over time, you can use a black sharpie marker to fill it back in, followed by a light scrub with #0000 steel wool to restore shine to your tag and remove any marker over-fill.

Avoid the use of harsh cleaners or chemicals on your tags.

IS NICKEL-SILVER MADE FROM REAL SILVER?

No, the name nickel-silver is a misnomer and is actually an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc.

WHICH SIZE TAG SHOULD I ORDER?
