CLASSIC SLIP -- The Classic Slip Collar has no built-in stopper and will continue to tighten as tension is applied. It is available on leather collars in eligible widths, but is not available for 1/2" collars with black hardware.
Our Leather Classic Slip Collars are made without a stationary D-ring unless requested. If you would like one added, please indicate this in the Special Instructions at checkout.
LIMITED SLIP -- The Limited Slip Collar incorporates a built-in stopper to limit how much the collar can tighten. With a leash attached to the "live" D-ring, the collar will tighten under tension to help prevent your dog from backing out of the collar, while the built-in stopper limits the collar's reduction in size.
The Limited Slip Upgrade is not available for 1/2" collars.
MEASURING FOR A SLIP COLLAR
Slip collars are nonadjustable and are designed to fit more loosely than a traditional buckle collar, allowing them to comfortably slip on/off over your dog's head. Accurate measuring is essential because your collar will be made specifically to the size you select.
With your dog in a sit or stand:
1. Measure the neck.
With your dog standing or sitting, measure the circumference at the base of the neck, leaving enough room to comfortably fit a couple of fingers between the measuring tape and your dog's neck. This is your "A measurement".
2. Measure the head.
Measure the circumference around the widest part of your dog's head, generally in front of the ears and below the jaw. Again, leave enough room to comfortably fit a couple of fingers beneath the tape and allow the tape to slide off/on their head, over their ears. This is your "B measurement".
3. Determine the Collar Size.
Choose the larger of your A and B measurements. The resulting measurement should allow the measuring tape to comfortably slide over your dog's head and back off again without significant resistance. If your measurement falls between sizes, round up to the nearest 0.5".
If your dog is particularly sensitive to having a collar slide over their head, you may want to allow additional room for a more relaxed fit.
