A martingale is a collar that provides increased control and often used for safety purposes, as the chain will slightly tighten if the dog pulls or tries to escape the collar, making it ideal for escape-prone dogs. This listing is for a nonadjustable martingale; please measure carefully, follow our instructions, and reach out to us with any questions before placing your order. We always seek to use only the highest quality materials. Our brass martingale chains are solid brass and our silver martingale chains are stainless steel and constructed by Herm Sprenger.
Our 1.5 inch and 1 inch collars are available as a standard martingale (will slide over the dog's head to take on and off) OR with a Loxx Fastener®. The addition of the fastener will allow you to place the collar on your dog without sliding it over their head and they can also act as a quick release mechanism in an emergency. For the best fit, a fastener is highly recommended for dogs whose heads are larger than their necks (such as bully breeds). Our Loxx Fastener option is not available for 5/8-width martingales.
Loxx Fasteners are made in Germany and per testing, they are the strongest, most-versatile, self-locking, quick release fasteners ever made. They close and lock automatically, will not accidentally open, will never rust, and will withstand shearing force greater than 1,000 N. Of course, as we always like to state, no hardware is ever completely perfect, but these fasteners are a stength and safety upgrade from most available on the market.
For safety, we do not recommend full-time wear of a martingale collar, nor should one ever leave a martingale collar on a dog when they are not under active and direct human supervision, as serious harm may occur.

Please, carefully read our instructions on how to measure your dog for a martingale collar. These instructions are different than for our buckle collars and slip collars. Our martingales are NOT adjustable, so taking time to measure your pup correctly is very important. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We will take your provided measurements and make the appropriate changes so the collar will fit properly. We design our martingale collars to lay loosely on a dog's neck and tighten enough so as not to slip over the their head. We do not size our martingales to be used as a corrective means for training.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT 1.5" and 1" COLLARS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR NECK SIZES 12" AND GREATER and will fit best on dogs greater than 35lbs.**
Because we care about the small details, every collar also comes permanently inscribed with the shop name on the underside of the collar; so you don't always have to show the whole world where you got your collar from, but you'll always know you bought quality, artisanal goods.
